New Canaan, Connecticut 9 Keene, New Hampshire 3

After two games in the 2008 New England Regional Tournament, New Canaan (Connecticut), the team which unseated last year's 9 year old State and New England Champions (New Milford, Connecticut), has become one of the this year's favorites along with host, West Warwick (last year's runner up to New Milford).  In fact, the two teams meet on Tuesday night (5:30) in the Winner's Bracket Final.

Led by the solid pitching of Zach Allen and David Giusti, New Canaan defeated Keene (New Hampshire), 9-3.

Allen, who picked up his second victory of the tournament, allowed two earned runs on three hits while striking out four batters.  Giusti, who worked the last three innings of the game, simply shut down Keene by allowing only one hit and striking out four batters.

In the bottom of the first inning, New Canaan, who shut out Hartford (Vermont) 16-0, continued their long ball hitting when Alex LaPolice hit a two run home run to give them a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the second inning, Keene tied the game, 2-2, when Isaac Segal (double) and Peter Brown (walk) on a single by Eric Zecha and fielder's choice by Noah Clay.

In the bottom of the third inning, New Canaan opportunistically scored three runs on three walks (Justin Clark, Harry Molloy, and Colin Tiller) and three hits (Jim Fahey, Kyle Levasseur, and Zach Allen).

In the bottom of the fourth inning, New Canaan built a 8-3 lead on runs by David Giusti (reached on an error), Zach Allen (walk), and Alex LaPolice (reached on an error).  Zach Smith had an r.b.i. single in the inning.

Offensively, New Canaan was led by Jim Fahey (2 for 3, one double and two runs scored), David Giusti (1 for 3, one run scored), Harry Molloy (1 for 2, one run scored), Justin Clark (one run scored), Zach Smith (1 for 4), Alex LaPolice (one home run), Zach Allen (1 for 3, one run scored), Kyle Levasseur (1 for3), and Colin Tiller (three walks and one run scored).
